International Doughnut Day began as far back as 1938 in Chicago, USA, as a fundraiser event for the Salvation Army.
Their goal was two-fold.
Firstly, it was to honour those volunteers in World War 1 who served Doughnut to Soldiers to help lift their spirits and secondly, to be a fundraising event for the Salvation Army during the Great Depression and the First World War.
