Insect-based pet treats and food are fantastic for your dogs. They provide scientifically proven nutritional and health benefits for the pups that consume them, all while doing so sustainably. Here are some of the basics of what they provide that makes them awesome:

  • High-quality source of protein with a great-well balanced amino acid profile (Kim et al., 2019).
  • They are hypoallergenic, meaning they are less likely to trigger any allergic reaction in your pet than traditional proteins like chicken or beef (Kępińska-Pacelik & Biel, 2022).
  • Another practical benefit of insect-based pet treats and food is their high digestibility. This makes the nutrient absorption process easier on your dog's stomach, promoting better digestion and overall health (Valdés et al., 2022).
  • They are rich in essential fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6, which support healthy skin, luxurious coats and the overall immune function of the dog (Oonincx et al., 2020).
  • The mineral content they contain is great to holistically shore up iron, calcium, zinc or magnesium deficiencies. Promoting excellent bone and muscle health (Köhler et la., 2019).
  • Farming insects requires significantly less water, land, and feed inputs than traditional livestock methods, making it a much more sustainable option with a lower environmental impact (van Huis & Oonincx, 2017).
  • They have a high fibre content from their crushed exoskeletons, which contain chitin, a form of fibre that is proven to support general gut health and aid in the digestion process (Kouřimská & Adámková, 2016).
  • They are rich in vitamins, including the B-vitamins, which contribute to dogs' energy production and overall metabolic health (Douglas, 2017).

If you choose to incorporate insect-based proteins, they will provide your furry friend with a well-rounded, nutritious option while being environmentally friendly, so you don’t have to feel guilty at all.
