HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HORSES
AUGUST…………what a big month August is! “tis the month for celebrating the birthdays of horses……..Happy Happy Birthday!!!!!

But why are horses all deemed to have a Birthday technically on the first day of August?
Well, in the Southern Hemisphere it is all to do with the mating season which begins in September as the days are starting to get longer………This change in season prompts the mares body to, shall we say, “come into season”.
Understanding the length of the gestation period it goes to reason that if a mare falls pregnant in September, then her foal will be born in August the following year! Interesting hey!
So that is the simple reason why we celebrate our Pony family members birthday in August….remembering of course, that this is a standardization measure as well to help with record keeping of stud breeds etc…..
