TURMERIC ADDS HEALTH BENEFITS TO PET TREATS
Huds and Toke design, create and manufacture unique Australian made pet treats for a wide variety of animals from Horses, to dogs, cats, rabbits, chickens and other small animals.
We aim to use high quality ingredients, and where possible, ingredients which add health benefits to the animals they are designed for.
Turmeric is one such ingredient which Huds and Toke use in many of their treats.
This spice is thousands of years old and spans multiple cultures and because of it’s anti-inflammatory properties, is proving to have really positive effects for a wide range of health issues.
Turmeric is also a rich source of vitamin C, E and B6 as well as containing minerals such as Iron and Potassium.
Herbalist and Nutritionist Stephanie Berglin commented in an article recently that “the active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, has been used for medical purposes in India for centuries. With over 4000 scientific articles to support its benefits, curcumin has been shown to be useful in providing antioxidant support, maintenance of healthy digestive function, as well as boasting a strong anti-inflammatory profile…..”
However, Turmeric, whilst awesome in it’s own right, is frightfully hard to metabolize. Meaning the benefits of the Curcumin is difficult to access……..UNLESS……..and wait for it…….you add a pinch of Black Pepper!
Yep, you read correctly. A pinch of Black Pepper can increase the bioavailability by 2000% in the same amount of Turmeric consumed, according to Michael Greger MD!
One reason for this, is that the Pepperine in the Pepper activates the Curcumin in the Turmeric and as such, releases it’s awesome potential….so to speak!
